The right technique

The right equipment and technique are all about for a perfect and safe ski tour.

Leg & ski

Don't lift your legs and skis when going on a ski tour, but let the ski slide forward over the snow

Climbing aid

Adjust the climbing aid depending on the slope’s gradient and put the weight on the entire sole of the foot evenly

Steep terrain

Be sure to practice the switchback technique before (use your skis to make a small even spot parallel to the slope, turn the ski on the mountain side supported by the ski poles, shift your weight & then lift the second ski on the valley side and move it in the new direction) in order to proceed step by step in steep terrain

Ski touring tips – varied choice of routes

Whether 1-day tours, high Alpine & glacier crossings or even multi-day classic ski tours such as the “Vent Loop Tour”, the choice of magnificent routes is as varied as the valley itself.

Stallwiesalm – for beginners

A leisurely ski tour in Sölden to Stallwiesalm with breathtaking views of the surrounding Ötztal mountain world. Special tip: Homemade spare ribs and pork shanks prepared by the hut owner himself.

Eiskögele – for experts

The “Kögele” is located at 3233 meters and ranks among the most popular ski touring peaks in the area around Obergurgl. The level of difficulty is intermediate, the difference in altitude is 1300 meters. Special tip: Gondola ride up to Hohe Mut.

Breiter Grieskogel – for pros

Breiter Grieskogel – for pros Ascent from Gries via the hamlet of Winnebach into Winnebachtal side valley. From there across the ridge of Zwieselbachjoch to Grieskogelferner, over glacier moraines you reach Breiter Grieskogel. The demanding ascent takes about 5 hours, the difference in altitude is 1646 meters. As a reward there is a long downhill stretch with perfect corn snow.
