A train trip towards your holiday

The journey by train ranks among the most comfortable ones. There are direct connections to Ötztal Bahnhof from varied countries, the train station is located at the entrance to Ötztal. From the station's square you can take the public bus. The train is a stress-free alternative also for excursions within Tirol, Italy, Germany or Switzerland. And what's best, there are super saver tickets in order to enjoy a both inexpensive and safe journey.

Daily direct connections

Skiers can reach Ötztal by train from all directions. Seven daily direct connections take guests from Zurich to Ötztal-Bahnhof in only 3 hours without having to change trains. Also the Railjet towards Bludenz via Arlberg pass stops in Ötztal-Bahnhof every two hours. In winter, there is even an additional route from Munich to St. Anton am Arlberg, which stops in Ötztal-Bahnhof. Six daily direct connections with an arrival time of 4 hours and 40 minutes are also available from Vienna with stops in St. Pölten, Linz and Salzburg.

The journey from the north can be made overnight with ÖBB Nightjet (from Hamburg or Düsseldorf via Nuremberg and Munich to Innsbruck). So you won't lose a single day. Especially interesting for guests from Germany: No matter if the journey to Ötztal starts in Berlin, Hamburg or Cologne (to name just three cities), Deutsche Bahn takes holidaymakers to Tirol quickly, easily and cheaply. For example, every Saturday from Berlin to Innsbruck on the ICE train without changing. At very attractive prices from only € 18.90 on short routes, e.g. from Munich to Innsbruck (2nd class). Further advantages: The tickets can be booked up to 6 months in advance, children up to 14 years of age even travel for free when accompanied by their parents or grandparents.

Save money on rails

ÖBB has a special Sparschiene program that offers train tickets at bargain rates valid within Austria or throughout Europe. Also the German and Swiss Railways have similar super saver programs. Holders of the BahnCard 25 or 50 of Deutsche Bahn, for example, receive a 25% BahnCard discount on the German rail route. Additionally, Deutsche Bahn also offers interesting super saver offers for Tirol – the super saver price finder helps to find the cheapest price.

Sending luggage ahead makes traveling easier

Enjoy your train journey and simply send your luggage in advance. The luggage service of ÖBB will pick up your luggage at home and deliver it to your holiday accommodation. This service is available for guests from Austria and Germany if the trip is booked with ÖBB. More information about booking is below. Please find more detailed booking information below.

Nobody there to take the luggage?

An additional service also makes it easier to travel to holiday apartments. The Tirolean holiday region of Ötztal stands for environmental-friendly and sustainable tourism and is therefore offering all guests who stay at private accommodations or holiday apartments and who arrive by train a special service in the 2023/24 winter season and in the 2024 summer season: Guests have the option of sending their luggage to their holiday destination even if no one is on site at their accommodation, in order to receive their luggage before arrival or to have it picked up after departure. The luggage is sent to a central address and delivered to the accommodation upon arrival of the guests. This special service was developed as part of the ULTIMOB research project.

Costs

The ÖBB price list applies to luggage delivery. The extra service will be carried out on a trial basis at no additional cost in the Ötztal Holiday Region in the 2023/24 winter season and in the 2024 summer season - in cooperation with the ULTIMOB project. If you make use of the additional service, you are asked to fill out a short and anonymous questionnaire in which you tell us more about your experience as well as your wishes and suggestions regarding the service. In this way you make a valuable contribution to the further development of this service. The questionnaire will be handed out during the luggage handover. This program is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection.

This is how luggage delivery to the holiday destination works:

1. Booking

Information on luggage services available at ÖBB door-to-door luggage service. Luggage delivery from door to door. If no one can collect your luggage at your destination, there is an additional service sending your luggage to a central address as described in the next step.

2. Information about addressing

If someone is at the accommodation during the day (e.g. reception), please include the address of the accommodation as the destination address when ordering luggage delivery. The luggage will be delivered directly to the accommodation. If you stay at an accommodation where no one can accept your luggage before check-in, you can take advantage of our additional service. The service is offered for overnight stays in the following holiday villages: Hochgurgl, Obergurgl, Sölden, Hochsölden, Vent, Zwieselstein, Längenfeld, Huben.

3. Luggage collection

The luggage is first picked up by the luggage service provider of ÖBB from the specified address in the home town and brought to Austria to the destination address as stated above.

4. Receive your luggage at the holiday resort

If your luggage was not delivered directly to the accommodation, delivery can be ordered within a favorite time window of 2 hours after arrival at the holiday accommodation. You have to call the phone number +43 66488355200 between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm and give the exact address of your holiday accommodation. The luggage will then be delivered within the agreed 2 hours.

This is how luggage delivery back to your home town works:

1. Booking/Pick-up address

When booking the luggage service (see above), give the address of the accommodation as the pick-up address if someone is on site to hand over the luggage. If no one is on site, provide the central address.

2. Pick-up of luggage in your accommodation

If you use the central address, luggage pick-up can be ordered before you leave your holiday accommodation within a favorite time window of 2 hours. You have to call the phone number +43 66488355200 between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm and give the exact address of your holiday accommodation. The luggage will then be picked up there within the agreed 2 hours.

3. Luggage delivery

The luggage is picked up by the luggage service provider at the specified pick-up address (accommodation or central address) and delivered to the delivery address (home address).
